Flood & Swiftwater Rescue (FAST)

Course Description: The Flood & Swiftwater Awareness course is a 1-day lecture and table-top discussion. The target audience is Chiefs, Commanders, EOC operators, Dispatch, Non-Rescue Emergency Personnel, Planning Directors, and Emergency Service Personnel that will not be at the Technician Level.
The course will cover planning, logistics, dangers, communication in water environments, ICS, equipment, hydrology, and PowerPoint demonstration of techniques used in the field. The person attending should leave with the knowledge of what could be expected in a flood or swift water emergency.
FAS 1st Responder

Course Description: Covers: Individual safety, hydrology, communications, and shore-based techniques. The 1st Responder is taught shore-based rescue skills such as Rescue Knots & Hitches, Throw lines, Belay systems, Survival Defensive Swim, Shallow Water Crossing Techniques.
FAS Operations

Course Description: Usually run concurrently with any FAST R1 class. Covers all the same knowledge and field technical skills, through the 2-day period. Operations participants learn to assist FAST R1 Technicians.

Course Description: The Flood & Swiftwater Technician Rescue 1 covers in-depth topics starting with background and history of flood and swiftwater rescues. Recognized standards, training, Incident Command, communication, rescue equipment, safety concerns, search elements, physical and technical risks, hydrology, medical considerations for victim(s) and rescuer(s), Anchor and rope systems, Throw lines, belay techniques, survival swim, rescue swims, rope crossing techniques, shallow and deep water techniques, wall/abutment rescues, low water crossing/low head dams, bridge rescue, entrapment recovery, boats, vehicle rescues, self-defense, and practical exercises allowing the student a chance to put it all together. The FAST R1 Tech will have the knowledge base, technical skills, and physical abilities to determine the best course of action on a rescue scene.
FAST2

Prerequisite: Must have successfully completed the FAST1 within the past 3 years.
Course Description: This takes the personal and Team level techniques to advanced levels. All areas taught in the FAST-R1 course are expanded including larger-scale disasters, more detailed search management, day and night search functions, night operations technical skills, advanced boat, and rope systems, rescue baskets and slings on banks, advanced tethered swimmer Type V PFD operations, night search mission, and numerous practical exercises. Also included are motorized IRB operations in conjunction with rope systems. FAST R2 Techs will be in a better position to handle searches, interviews, and advanced rescue situations.

Course Description: This is a completely customizable training option for those teams or individuals who want additional or specialized training beyond our primary courses such as special conditions, locations, or scenarios that you want to learn new or alternative rescue technique options for, as well as the Certified Technician test.
Rescue Boat Technician (RBT)

Prerequisite: Must have successfully completed the FAST1 within the past 3 years.
We teach our courses with a format in which the student learns all the positions on the team. In this case there is a reasonable expectation that the Agile Bowman might need to exit the boat in FAST conditions to retrieve a patient and should be able to handle said conditions. Additionally, any member on board the boat could at any time fall or be knocked overboard an, again, should be able to handle those water conditions.
The FRBT1 course covers rescue boat terminology, types of boats, driving skills in calm water, driving skills in moving water, approach skills,
team assignments and specialties, rescue options from motorized boat, multiple boat search, evacuation procedures. The student will participate as a operator, crew member and rescue swimmer in the boat operations using motorized boats.

HWEV Operations
Course Composition: HWEV Awareness & FAS Operations
Course Description: This qualification is for team members who will be doing support skills such as spotter, safety check, and loading/unloading. Because there is no driving practical in this class, the student will not be qualified as the driver, but will leave have the capability of supporting the driver in most other capacities.

The Hurricane Response Awareness course covers information on prior Hurricanes, Storm Surge, Floods, Winds and other Meteorological Occurrences. History & differences. Classes of storms and hurricanes, egress classification, rally points. Thought process on when and where to evacuate prior to the storm, when is it safe to return.

ATV/UTV Rescue
ATV/UTV Rescue Technician 1

ATV Crew Member – The crew members job is to assist the driver / operator. This will include scouting trails, clearing, watching approach and transition, planking, belays, winch and/or come along operations, anchor sets and any other rigging or assistance as needed. They may also run navigation and communications.
The Ground Crew Member may also serve as the Medic for the patient(s) upon return.
ATV Driver Operator – sole purpose is to drive the ATV and operate systems from on board. The Driver is also the OIC (Officer In Charge) of operations regarding the ATV Unit. The driver is ultimately responsible for the track, operations, vehicle, trailer, systems and personnel associated with the movement of their ATV.
Cave Rescue (CRT)

CRT2

Instructor Training
Instructor Training
Cost: $200
Duration: 1-2 Day Hours: 8-16
The Instructor Training comes in multiple parts. The initial training is 1-2 days, depending on the preference of the instructor candidate.
Day 1 covers the RTI Instructor Contract, Copyright Agreement, Instructor Credits, Participants Agreement Instructions, & Instructions for Class Materials.
Day 2 is voluntary and covers training practicals. This can be anything from listening to an experienced instructor complete lectures or demonstrate skills to practicing skills in the field to conducting lectures and getting constructive feedback and recommendations. Some instructor candidates have previous experience teaching adults and do not feel the need for this extra instruction, whereas others may not have the practical experience and may choose to take this extra day before beginning the Instructor Apprenticeship.
The $200 goes towards materials, training, and the background check.
