Surface Water Rescue Swimmer. This is a demanding 2 day class that has pre-requisite training and gear requirements.
Gear requirements are a USCG approved Manual inflated PFD, swim fins, mask, snorkle, and dive knife. A whistle such as the Fox 40 is also required.
Swimming requirements: the applicant must be able to swim 100 yards with mask, snorkle and PFD **NO FINS** and the same distance and gear with fins.
The swim skill will be tested on the first day of class in a open lake setting.
The Surface Water Rescue Swimmer will be trained to rapidly deploy into lakes, bays and other static water situations, swim to a victim, retrieve the victim back to shore or a boat. The swimmer will be taught self defense techniques, retrieval techniques, ditch and don gear, swim options and scene assessments.
It is highly recommended that applicants practice routinely before signing up for this training.
